How to collaborate on work with Microsoft Loop

Microsofts new productivity app is now available for 365 users.

Microsoft Loop small businesses

Loop is a new productivity app in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem that helps businesses share snippets of content in a collaborative space. It’s described as Microsoft’s version of Notion - a popular note-taking app, with the advantage of integrating with your current 365 environment.

Although it’s a relatively new product, ShadowSafe gives Loop the green tick for security, usability and cost.

Microsoft Loop Quick Summary:

  • Loop is included with your Microsoft 365 subscription.

  • Loop is designed to organise all your content across Microsoft 365.

  • Loop consists of Workspaces, Pages, and Components that sync data from different applications.

  • Loop is a browser based app.

What does Loop do?

Microsoft 365 allows you to work on documents and OneNotes with other users. But there’s always been a problem of where to keep track of shared tasks. Some prefer outlook, others prefer Teams.

That’s where Loop comes in. Loop allows you to create “Components” (lists, tables, paragraphs, or task lists) and share them between different Microsoft 365 apps. In other words, you can keep other team members 'in the loop' about certain projects and tasks in one place.

You can organise Components using Loop Pages, and Loop Workspaces. A Loop Page is similar to a OneNote page, a flexible canvas where you can add ideas and Components to. Loop Workspaces are where you can create ‘Spaces’ (projects) to organise ideas and content. There can be multiple Pages within one Workspace.

Loop Hierarchy:

  • Workspaces

    • Pages

      • Loop Components

Once you get your head around the new terms and layout, Loop becomes easy and intuitive to use on a daily basis. It does require a little bit of configuring with notifications, however, to get the balance right. If you're using a third party app such as Trello, Evernote or Notion in your business, Loop can replace these apps and without any cost. Loop is included in your Microsoft 365 license.

Creating Loop Components

Heads up: Not all functionality is available at the time within the Microsoft 365 desktop and mobile Apps.

You can create Loop Components (currently) in Teams, Outlook, Word for the web, and Whiteboard. The following video shows you how to create Components from within each app:

Over the coming months Microsoft will make Loop compatible with more 365 apps.

How to access Loop

Loop is a browser based app. Simply log in via your Microsoft 365 account. https://loop.microsoft.com
